ACI World, through the survey "Airport Service Quality Award" (ASQ), interviewed about 600 thousand passengers in almost 500 airports scattered around the world and was based on 30 indicators relative to the airport experience at both departures and arrivals.
The categories analyzed and honored by the ASQ Award are 5: best airports by size and region, airport with the most dedicated staff, easiest airport journey, most enjoyable airport, cleanest airport.
Only 9 airports in their respective geographic areas won in all 5 categories: in Africa Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport triumphed; in the Asia-Pacific region won the Hasanuddin and Yogyakarta stopovers; in Europe Adnan Menderes International Airport and Rome-Fiumicino Airport won; in Latin America, on the other hand, gold medal for the do Guayaquil International Airport; In the Middle East area the best airport is Salalah; dulcis in fundo, In the area of North America the only two airports that won in all 5 categories were Greenville-Spartanburg Airport and Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Finally, there is a sixth category--best airports at arrivals globally--that awards the airports most appreciated by passengers upon arrival.
Rome-Fiumicino Airport is not the only Roman airport to be honored by ACI World: Ciampino's "Giovan Battista Pastine" has also been named the best airport in Europe for the first time, with passenger traffic ranging from 5 to 15 million annually.
"Today's is, for ADR, a historic day: for the first time, Fiumicino and Ciampino airports are being awarded together internationally for the quality and services offered to passengers" stated Marco Troncone, managing director of Aeroporti di Roma, continuing, "It is an extraordinary achievement that of 'Leonardo da Vinci' as Europe's best airport and the only major hub in the world to win in all categories considered by Airport Service Quality 2023. And the goal also achieved by the 'G.B. Pastine' of Ciampino, awarded for the first time as 'Best Airport' in its own category, is the concrete testimony that the difference is made by our people, as well as by the method, the daily commitment and the immense passion that distinguish our entire airport community. Once again we consider these moments just stages, of an increasingly virtuous path of sustainable development for the territory, for Rome and for the whole of Italy".
Three other Italian airports were also awarded: the port of Milan-Linate won in the category of best airport between 5 and 15 million passengers per year, while Milan-Malpensa in the best airport category between 25 and 40 million passengers per year; finally, In the category "airport with the most dedicated staff" we find Turin-Caselle airport.
