After seven years, Emirates returns to Rome Fiumicino with two daily Airbus A380s. Starting May 1., in fact, the afternoon flight from the Roman airport to Dubai will be carried out no longer with a Boeing 777-300ER, but with one of the 116 Superjumbos of the Emirates airline.
And it will be at least until next October 26, the last day of the summer schedule for airlines. These are the pair of EK95/EK96 flights., the rotation beginning with takeoff from Dubai at 3:45 p.m. and landing in Fiumicino at 8:10 p.m. and continuing with takeoff from Rome at 10:10 p.m. and ending with landing in the emirate at 5:05 a.m. the next morning.
Emirates had begun operations to Rome with theA380 in 2011, but it was since 2017 that it had not made two daily flights with the Superjumbo.
In terms of seat availability on board, the replacement of the 777-300ER with the A380 means going from 352 to 489, 491 or 517 passengers, depending on the configuration of the Superjumbos that will be used on Fiumicino. Class by class, it means going through 8 to 14 seats in First, 42 to 76 in Business And 304 to 399, 401 or 427 seats in Economy.
The overall supply of places on the route still remains below pre-pandemic levels, when rotations between Dubai and Rome were not two but three per day (as of 2017 operated with two B777-300ERs and one Airbus A380-800).
There were three daily rotations at Milan Malpensa as well., all with A380s, one of which continued over the Atlantic to New York JFK, while today there are two daily flights between Dubai and Milan (both with A380s). The rest of the Emirates operational on our country includes. a daily flight from Dubai to Bologna and one from Dubai to Venice. Both connections are operated with Boeing 777-300ERs..
With the return of the second daily Superjumbo, Fiumicino joins the small club of airports that are served by Emirates with at least two A380s daily. The July 2024 operational includes in this narrow group the following. 17 destinations: Milan, Rome, Munich , Paris, London Heathrow and London Gatwick, Moscow Domodedovo, Cairo, Jeddah, Mauritius, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Sydney, and New York JFK.
