I took the world's longest flight: 19 hours aboard a plane from Singapore to New York nonstop

There are things on everyone's "wish list." Some people want to see all the museums, some want to see all the stadiums. I have friends who want to ski at as many places in the world and those who want to eat at all the Michelin-starred restaurants. There are those who collect Legos and those who love lounging in the Maldives. I am sick of airplanes and so "the world's longest flight" Has always been in my wish drawer.
Waiting for Qantas to take the wheels off the ground for the first direct flight: Sydney/London, which is more than 20 hours of volo, as of today, the title belongs to Singapore Airlines' direct, nonstop connection linking the Asian city with New York's two airports, each day one flight lands at JFK and one at EWR and, inch by inch, the flight over JFK is a full 14 miles longer for a total of 9,537 Than the one that lands in New Jersey.
How much did the ticket for the world's longest flight cost me
Obviously I booked this business class ticket with loyalty points of the Singapore Airlines program, getting these points is so easy because. you can transfer free of charge from Membership Rewards to KF in a few clicks.
I used 111,500 KrisFlyer points and paid less than $60 in taxes. A saver ticket in one of the "hottest" weeks of the year since it was Chinese New Year's Eve, a fare too good to pass up. The economic value of this route is more than 4 thousand euros each way.
Direct or with stopover in Frankfurt
This is not the only connection SQ operates to the Big Apple, there is also the flight via Frankfurt, the one where I traveled in the Crazy first class suite aboard A380. However, this flight is currently operated with the 777/300 and not the company's flagship.
Taking the direct flight instead of a stopover flight saves about 5 hours, considering that when the plane arrives in Frankfurt it sits about 2 hours.
Singapore uses special A350ULRs for flights to New York
The first thought to chase away is the idea of doing 18 hours with your knees in your mouth, as in any economy chair.
In fact, these A350 ULRs, Ultra Long Range, are configured with only two cabins: business class and premium economy, with a total of only 161 seats.
19 hours for air is really a lot
Lately, also aided by the war in Ukraine, many flights have become longer. Going to China, Japan from Europe takes up to 2 hours longer, whereas before thanks to orthodromic routes Finnair could say it was the most convenient one to go to the East, today it is definitely not.
I thought, foolishly, that there was not that much difference then between a 13/14 hour flight and a 19 hour flight, but I was wrong. Certainly flying comfortably seated, or lying down, in the best possible seat on Singapore Airlines' A350 definitely helps, and I must say, I did not envy at all who was sitting in Premium Economy.
The biological clock
The most complicated thing for those who travel little is to not get devastated by jetlag, fortunately I have managed to find my balance and can manage my times quite well. The flight from Singapore to JFK leaves in the late morning (12:30 p.m.) and arrives in New York in the late afternoon of the same day. I had decided on my strategy before I left, and I must say that my plan worked perfectly.
The importance of food
I took advantage of the opportunity to choose what I wanted from Book the cook e I ordered my favorite dishes from the a la carte menu that SQ offers on all its flights. A total of as many as 3 full meals were served, in addition to the ability to order snacks at all hours.
I have no idea how the service is organized in premium economy, but business class passengers certainly do not starve or thirst.
Sleep is not difficult
Seat selection also helps in business class, especially if there is the option of having a much more spacious and comfortable seat in bed mode. I chose to sleep in the middle of the flight., after eating and working, and then woke up and had dinner. And after a couple of hours of fucking around, I took a nap until we got to the time of the last meal. In a nutshell. I arranged to arrive tired, but not very tired in New York.
Now I'm waiting for Qantas and the +20h flight
During 2026, the A350/1000XLR is expected to enter service. that is, the one chosen by Qantas to fly nonstop from the east coast of Australia to London and New York, a flight renamed "Sunrise" a name inspired by the secret World War II flights from Perth to Sri Lanka bound for London took more than two days, and passengers on board could then see two sunrises.
The plane will not only be special in its tanks, but also and especially in its outfitting. First, there will be four classes and not just two and the Australian company will also install an on-board gym for (business) passengers.
In conclusion
The video on the YT channel will be released in the coming weeks, as well as the full review. I was curious about the experience and can't wait to go again.
