Milan-Bergamo airport expands: new passenger terminal to be built in coming years

Sacbo, the airport company operates the Bergamo-Orio al Serio airport, presented the project for the expansion of the passenger terminal.
Upon completion of the work (for which Sacbo has allocated 41 million euros), Orio al Serio airport will have a new check-in room, equipped not only with 22 more desks dedicated to acceptance operations but also of state-of-the-art X-ray machines for checking checked baggage; the second floor will also be built over 7000 square meters that will host the security checks, equipped with 14 type C3 posts to be able to analyze the contents of carry-on luggage without the need to pull out PCs, electronic instruments and liquids. Not only that, both the area of the duty free - which will increase from the current 600 sq. m. to 1,600 sq. m. - both the spaces dedicated to the non-Schengen boarding.
"We chose a slogan that summed up the goal of the airport space upgrades, and thus "more space, more comfort, faster, farther" - stated Giovanni Sanga, president of SACBO - An important investment that allows us to look to the future always with a view to sustainability, taking into account that the end of the passenger terminal expansion works will precede the opening of the direct rail link to the airport. In addition to facilitating accessibility, with a view to multimodality, our goal is to make the passenger terminal increasingly welcoming, functional and pleasant, facilitating check-in and security check operations and allowing passengers to enjoy all services during their time in the terminal."
The work, SACBO reported, is expected to be completed in the month of November 2025.
