Nearly a year and a half after the start of the Rome Fiumicino-Bergamo, Aeroitalia has operated the first flights between Fiumicino and Milan Linate., making inroads into what is historically the 'inner sanctum' of the Italian national airline: first Alitalia and, now, Ita Airways.
Rather than a breach, it is actually still a crack, as the new private Italian airline connects the two airports only on Saturdays and Sundays, with one flight a day operated not with its 189-seat Boeing 737-800 jets, but with smaller 68-seat ATR 72-600 turboprops operated by Air Connect but in Aeroitalia livery.
The two weekly frequencies are added to the 11 flights from the Roman hub to Bergamo Orio Al Serio, always operate with ATR72-600.
The operative provides for departure from Linate (both Saturday and Sunday) at 8:35 a.m. with arrival at Fiumicino at 9:55 a.m. In the reverse direction, it flies on Saturday from Fiumicino to Linate at 7:05 p.m. with arrival at 8:25 p.m., while on Sunday it takes off from Fiumicino at 10:50 a.m. with arrival at Linate at 12:10 p.m.
The price-base of the ticket, by route, is 29.99 euros, true to the company's pricing policy across its entire network. It had been about ten years since, on Fiumicino-Linate, first Alitalia and then ITA knew no competition, albeit to a very limited extent like what Aeroitalia has been offering since April 6.
