One only has to see the throngs of hotel chains of all kinds and grades surrounding airports around the world to Understand how hotels are in effect part of the airport system and the experience of air travelers. That is why we here at TFC also have a home page dedicated specifically to the hotels near airports.
And, according to the bum, the best in Italy is the Sheraton Milan Malpensa, while around the world are the Moxy Those he seems to prefer.
Therefore, in assigning 'World Best Airports' awards., rating agency Skytrax also awards ones to 'Best airport hotels'. Which, punctually, he did again this year.
If the 'World Best Airports' classic (on par with the 'World Best Airlines') Has been dominated by Asian ports of call (as many as 9 in the top 20 positions), a similar result was seen in the Top 10 hotels., with the top two being the Crowne Plaza at Changi in Singapore and the Hyatt Regency at Shenzen in China, the seventh being the Movenpick Bahrain and the ninth being the Pullman Guangzhou Airport.
Three top ten can be found in Europe: are the Hilton Munich Airport (fourth), the Hilton Schipol Airport (eighth) and the Sofitel London Heathrow (tenth); the remainder three are in North America: the iconic TWA Hotel at JFK in New York (third), the Fairmont Vancouver Airport (fifth), and the Grand Hyatt at SFO in San Francisco.
There are no hotels from South America, Africa or Oceania in the Top 10. But Skytrax also released a Top 5 for each region on the planet.
Thus, in Africa we find in first place the Intercontinental OR Tambo in Johannesburg, followed by the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport, the Le Meridien and Novotel both at Cairo Airport, and the Radisson Blu Addis Ababa.
In Asia, Changi's Crowne Plaza and Shenzen's Hyatt Regency, chosen as the world's best airport hotels, are followed by Pullman Guangzhou Airport, Cordis (a brand that is part of Hong Kong's Langham Hospitality Group) Shanghai Hongqiao by the Hong Kong Sky City Marriott.
In Australia/Pacific the best place to rest between flights or while waiting to depart is Pullman Sydney Airport, followed by Pullman Auckland Airport in New Zealand and three other facilities in Australia: the Parkroyal Melbourne Airport and Pullman and Novotel in Brisbane.
In the Middle East Leading the ranking is the Movenpick Bahrain (seventh in the world ranking), followed by the Dubai International Hotel, the Hyatt Regency Orix Doha, and the JW Marriott Hotel and Novotel both in Muscat, Oman.
In North America, the three hotels that are also in the Global Top 10. (TWA at JFK in New York, Fairmont Vancouver and Grand Hyatt SFO) lead ahead of The Westin SFO Airport and the Westin Denver Intenational.
A China and India, given their volume in terms of air traffic equal to that of a continent, Skytrax has dedicated a ranking of its own. In China the Hyatt Regency Shenzen (second in the world) and Pullman Guangzhou Airport (ninth in the world) are followed by the Cordis Shanghai Hongqiao (which is also fourth in Asia), the Cordis Beijing Capital airport and the Hilton Beijing Capital. In India, the JW Marriott Dehli leads, followed by the Taj bangalore and the Hilton Chennai.
In South America, the palm for best airport hotel property went to Windham in Quito, Ecuador, which placed ahead of Marriott Sao Paulo Airport, Courtyard by Marriott Bogota Airport in Colombia, Pullman Sao Paulo Guarulhos, and Wyndham Costa del Sol Lima Airport in Peru.
What about Europe? Among the top five there is no Italian facility Hilton dominate: Behind Hilton Munich Airport (fourth in the world) and Hilton Schipol (eighth) were Sofitel London Heathrow (tenth), Hilton Frankfurt Airport and Sheraton Amsterdam Schipol.
Reading crosswise by hotel brand the global Top 20. And regional rankings, Hilton is the hotel chain that has won the most awards, with honorable mentions for Crowne Plaza, Hyatt and Marriott. At the regional level (Pacific and Asia), the Pullman brand, which is part of the French Accor group, also achieved excellent ratings.
