Etihad relaunches the free stopover: anyone who flies with EY and has a stopover (of up to 4 days) in Abu Dhabi will be entitled to it. A stopover refers to a particularly long layover between two flights: not to be confused with a connecting flight, a stopover (which typically lasts more than 10 hours) allows for a quick Touch-and-go in the city in which you stop by before departing again. There are several companies that offer free stopover, and among them is the Abu Dhabi carrier.

Maximum 24-hour layover: Etihad offers "Transit Connect" package

If the stopover lasts between 10 and 24 hours, Etihad offers the "Transit Connect": you will be entitled to a free stay in one of three hotels located near the airport (Premier Inn Abu Dhabi International Airport Hotel, Premier Inn Abu Dhabi Capital Centre Hotel or Aloft Abu Dhabi). Beware, however: this option is only available to passengers who have a one-way flight paid at least $500 or a round-trip flight costing more than $750 (including taxes).

One- or two-night stay

If, on the other hand, the stopover is one or two nights, the number of facilities in which to stay for free increases. Etihad offers free stay at the following hotels: Aloft Abu Dhabi; Al Manhal Center; Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Abu Dhabi City Center; Novel Hotel City Center; Premier Inn Abu Dhabi International Airport Hotel; Premier Inn Abu Dhabi Capital Centre Hotel; Ramada by Wyndham Abu Dhabi Downtown; Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi; TRYP by Wyndham Abu Dhabi.

How to book

After booking your airline tickets on the Etihad site, you will have a choice of hotels. Can the free stopover be taken advantage of with an award ticket?

Alas, no, it is not possible. The free stay given by the stopover can only be used if Etihad tickets are paid for in cash.
