Summer news for Milan Malpensa. As of June 5, in fact, the airline Azores Airlines will return - after several years - to connect the Azores with the Lombard capital. A direct flight, without any stop-overs or stopovers, will continue throughout the summer and until September 27,
The Sata Group carrier, will offer two weekly flights with a new A321neo, the Wednesday and Friday, between Ponta Delgada and Malpensa Airport and also plans to extend the connection to the winter schedule.
Direct flights from Malpensa
Departure from Milan is scheduled at 2:10 p.m., while arrival in the Atlantic archipelago of Portugal is at 4:50 p.m. In the opposite direction, flights will depart from. Ponta Delgada at 7:15 am with landing at Malpensa at 1:15 pm. Finally, the arrival time in Ponta Delgada allows convenient connections with flights from Sata Air Açores, which internally connects the nine islands of the Azores archipelago.
Azores Airlines, the result of Sata's rebranding in 2015, now flies to 80 destinations with a fleet of state-of-the-art aircraft (A321 LR, A321 neo, A320, Q400 and Q200).
Stopover between the U.S. and Europe
The direct flight from Milan also continues after a short stop over in Ponta Delgada to the U.S. city of Boston. Finally, Azores Airlines allows numerous connections connecting the archipelago to North America, the European mainland (including mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago) and the Cape Verde archipelago.
Through a special stop-over program, in fact, the airline aims to attract travelers between North America and Europe by offering the opportunity to take up to seven days of vacation in the Azores midway through the journey between the two continents.
The offer includes staying in the islands of São Miguel o Terceira and no additional fees or extra charges on Azores Airlines flights between a North American and European destination.
The airline provides various in-flight services, from IFE (entertainment) even in economy on travelers' devices, to the possibility of providing online check in, extra seat, fast track, pre-assignment of places and transportation of sports equipment.
According to Graça Silva, sales, marketing, and communications director of Azores Airlines, "This will be another successful venture. With this operation, Azores Airlines continues to strengthen its investment in the European continent. Although we are only at the launch stage, the demand recorded so far already allows us to anticipate an excellent summer operation, during which we will bet on a market with great growth potential."
Destination Azores
The Azores is a destination in the limelight in recent years for beach vacations, but not only. The archipelago's offerings include numerous routes to trekking, the observation of the whales year-round, the golf, activities such as the surfing and paragliding.
Azores Airlines is a carrier with over twenty-five years of experience in domestic and transatlantic flights. The airline is part of Sata Holding, which also includes Sata Air Açores, founded in 1941, and Sata Aerodromos, which operates four of the five airports in the Azores archipelago.
In 1998 Sata Air Açores launched international flight operations under the name Sata Internacional and ocean blue aircraft in front and a dark blue tail with the company logo. In 2015, following various restructuring and rebranding operations, Sata Internacional became Azores Airlines.
Accumulate Miles for Tap Miles&Go
The carrier also has its own loyalty program, Sata IMAGINE, which provides numerous perks, benefits and opportunities to acumulate miles in a variety of venues and activities in the Azores as well.
At present, however, Sata IMAGINE has no active partnerships with other airlines, carrier and hotel chain loyalty programs, or credit cards.
