San Francisco is a city in deep crisis, like all of California, but it remains one of the most dreamed of destinations for Italian travelers and also one of those where it is possible to fly nonstop from Rome with ITA Airways.
For those departing from the international airport named after Harvey Milk, a historic LGBT activist and former mayor of the city, there are two very important pieces of news.
He opened The Club SFO

The Club is a lounge network with a presence primarily in the United States. That's why The Club sign might not say much to the Italian traveler, but Airport Dimension a Collinson Group company, not only operates airport lounges around the world and under different brands, but more importantly is the owner of the Priority Pass brands and Lounge Key, or the cards that millions of travelers around the world use to access airport lounges.
The opening of this new VIP lounge at San Francisco's newly renovated Terminal 1 is a real gem for all travelers departing from the airport. The lounge, as reported by various sources as TPG e Business Traveller, opened last June 26 and can accommodate just under 250 passengers.
This will be the first Priority Pass lounge for the new terminal at the California airport, and there's a lot to be amazed at judging from the pictures that have been distributed (actually, they're still renderings), but it sure looks like it's going to be a little masterpiece.

It's a safe bet that one of the most coveted areas will be the sofa surrounding the fireplace in the center of the lounge.
All terminals are connected airside
One of the shortcomings of airport facilities in the U.S. is that the terminals, almost never, are connected post security checks. Just think of JFK where there are 4 terminals in operation and it is impossible to move between them except by getting out and taking the Airtrain.
For those unfamiliar with this airport, international flights depart from gates A and G, while terminals 1,2,3 are for domestic flights. What is new is that it will now be possible to walk between terminals without leaving the sterile area, that is, without having to go through security again.
Of course you only have to look at the map above to be able to imagine the distances between one area and another and then if you are going to be hopping between lounges, it is always good to take travel time into account.
