Emirates award tickets in economy now cost less
As of June 1, as mentioned, those flying in Emirates' economy class will accumulate fewer Skywards points. Sure it's a devaluation, but Emirates' frequent flyer has always been known for its thriftiness in terms of points bestowed with individual flights, even in first class.
The flip side of the coin is. EK simultaneously decided to cut the cost of award tickets and for us Italians this is great news since this allows you to fly on the A380 from Milan to New York really spending a handful of points.
How the award ticket changes from Milan to New York (and vice versa)
The first thing you notice, besides the change in the rate, is that Finally, a one-way ticket costs half as much as a full itinerary. Until May 31, the one-way ticket cost 38,750 Skywards miles while 45,000 miles were needed for the round trip.
Now instead the minimum price you'll get on Emirates' most "beloved" route in Italy is 17,500 Skywards miles for dry one-way and twice as much, or 35,000, for round trip. To this must be added the taxes, which are 84€ for the flight from Milan and 54$ for the flight from T4 at JFK.
If 17,500 is the minimum price you can go up to 62,500 plus €300 in taxes, obviously a conversion to be avoided like the plague.
Flying to Dubai from Italy using Emirates points
The price to fly to Dubai, again from Milan, is the same in points, but more exorbitant in surcharges. Again, 17,500 Skywards miles are needed to fly to the UAE with the addition of €100 in taxes.
Check and (if necessary) delete and rebook
As I often remember, prize tickets are flexible and can often be booked without penalty. Which one of our readers did as soon as he read the news of the fare change. Canceled ticket and just under 9,000 Skywards points saved.

This cut in the cost of award tickets is therefore very good news for all EK's infrequent travelers who will now be able to burn fewer points to redeem award tickets to fly in economy on the A380, the most beautiful plane ever to enter service in aviation history.
