One word: wow. This is the first thing we said as soon as we saw the photographs of the new Delta One Lounge in theJFK airport in New York. The second, however, was: finally. È A big leap forward from the current proposal.
The lounge
Let's go in order. Delta, one of America's '3 sisters', has finally unveiled its new premium lounge, dedicated to first or business class passengers: it is located at the Terminal 4 (the 'home' of Emirates, which flies to Italy from here, KLM, Swiss and many other carriers, as well as Delta), between piers A and B, near the security checkpoints. Let's give some numbers: over 3600 square meters, maximum capacity of 515 passengers, a 140-seat restaurant, and a large terrace overlooking the slopes that can accommodate up to 40 people.
Lots of space, in fact lots of space: it is, in fact, the Delta's largest lounge. The design of the lounge is inspired by New York City: just like the city that never sleeps, Delta One is also full of life and contrasts. There are many nods to NY: one among them is the chandelier in the lounge bar, which is inspired by that of Radio City Music Hall.
Services
Lots of amenities. As mentioned, the new Delta One features a 140-seat restaurant: 3 courses are offered.
If, however, you do not have time to enjoy lunch or dinner sitting at the table, you can opt for the "The Market and Baker", a lavish buffet perfect for those who wish to pack something to munch on later.
The terrace, which is covered and therefore accessible 365 days a year, is full of greenery and offers incredible views of the slopes.
Passengers will have at their disposal 8 suite, complete with shower and bath linens; business travelers, even, can have their clothes ironed and their shoes polished.
There is, also, arelaxation area: guests can relax using the 9 massage chairs; in addition, skin care products branded Grown-Alchemist.
Finally, business travelers will be able to use the 8 (soundproofed) specially created cabins to work in total serenity.
Who can access the new Delta One Lounge
There are 3 categories of passengers who will have access to the new Delta One Lounge: those who fly Delta's business class, Delta One; travelers who hold Delta 360 status; and finally, those who fly first or business with Delta's partner airlines, such as Air France, Latam, KLM, Korean Air, and Virgin Atlantic. The only drawback: among these airlines those flying from T4 are only Latam, KLM and Virgin; Korean and Air France fly, however, from T1.
Delta continues with its rather stringent policy regarding lounge access. The problem, as we have written extensively, is always the same: overcrowding; to counter it are excluded, therefore, all passengers with SkyTeam status (even Elite Plus members) and American Express holders.
Will it be possible to log in with one or more guests? If you have the status Delta 360, the answer is yes; otherwise no. Delta 360 members can enter with their relatives (spouse or partner and children, provided they are under 21 years old) or with up to two companions (who, however, must shell out $100/10,000 Delta SkyMiles per person).
In conclusion
The new Delta One Lounge, the U.S. carrier's largest lounge, Will officially open its doors next June 27. And we are looking forward to visiting it.
