Let's put our hands together right away: the Poodle will soon fly over Allegris, and just as soon will come the review on the YouTube channel. In the meantime, however, thanks to a reader, Stan, we find out. How to fly in Lufthansa's new cabins..
Our Stan flew, from Toronto to Monaco, aboard the newest A350-900 of the German carrier's fleet (only 3 months old) in the seat 8A: Along with row 2 this is, probably, the best place of the new Allegris business in terms of comfort: it is a real suite - which, perhaps, has little to envy the new first - with as many as two windows available and even a door Which gives no small amount of privacy.
On board
"I especially appreciated the fact that once you settle in and close the door, for the rest of the trip you will not see other passengers; the closed door also signals to the crew that you do not want to be disturbed.
Once you are seated, you realize that there is no shortage of space: of course, if you are looking for the roomiest seat you should aim for the middle rows, the new "throne seats," but even in the side rows you are definitely comfortable.
The suite has plenty of lockers, although some proved too small; perhaps it would have been better to have just one, large enough to cram jackets or coats into, rather than two medium-sized ones in which one struggles to fit even a simple briefcase. The presence of two usb, one type A, and the other type C, is appreciated.
The seat
The seat features a three-point belt, car style: wonderful; it makes the seat safer and, if you will, more premium. The three-point closure also proves to be decidedly convenient: after take-off, one can unfasten only the top part and keep the 'classic' one fastened at the waist for sleeping or working. Recent news events have made us realize for the umpteenth time that. turbulence is always lurking and, therefore, it is good to be strapped to the seat at all times to avoid being thrown around.
Special mention for the coffee table: nice and solid. It does not flex like so many others do that make writing difficult. Quite convenient, then, that it can be moved forward and backward, allowing passengers to be able to stand up even when the table is open.
The only sore point: some creaking Excessive in the structure of the cabins. When taxiing, there are many parts that make noise; tables and doors slam a little too much.
Amenity kit
The basic amenity kit did not convince as much: is still pretty much the same. No earplugs for sleeping but, on the other hand, full pajamas are finally back : no more wrinkled shirts on arrival.
IFE
IFE excellent: too bad only that there are no live TV programs (e.g., given the period, it would have been nice to be able to watch the European matches). Most convenient is the tablet to operate the big screen, which, given the equally large size of the cabin, is quite far from the seat.
Immediate connection of one's Bluetooth headset to the in-flight system; somewhat less so, however, the synchronization procedure with the phone; automatic integration with the Lufthansa app without having to click on a link would perhaps be needed.
In conclusion
We are at a level never seen for Lufthansa: Allegris gives it a remarkable leap by taking it to the top of world aviation. I am sure that this cabin is now a step up from the old First class; for Allegris' new one, however, we will have to wait at least another six months before we see it in world skies.
