The downside of prize tickets are the fees and surcharges that companies charge on each issue with the points, in some cases making the final price really unaffordable for the passenger. Miles&More increases surcharges to award tickets
In recent days, and without any warning, the Lufthansa Group airlines' loyalty program has raised the already high fees charged with the issuance of award tickets. For example, fees and surcharges for an award ticket to North America have increased from €654 to about €870 for a round trip to New York City.
Of course, this expense is in addition to the 110k points that are required to issue the ticket. This makes it even more important to know how to take advantage of the mileage bargains, namely the Monthly offers, which halve the amount of points required to redeem an award ticket. Unfortunately, however, only the points are halved, not the fees.
At present, the increase in surcharges impacts only routes to North America, perhaps because Allegris new cabins fly only in this direction.
