In a press release, the Finnish company announced that it has Completed the retrofitting of its long-haul fleet, now the revolutionary new cabins are available on all aircraft without distinction. One will no longer have to fear ending up on a plane with the old set-ups and you will be guaranteed to fly on the world's innovative (and only) "seatless" business class seat.
I was supposed to fly try this new cabin in 2022, but on the outbound flight from Helsinki to Singapore I had been downgraded to Premium Economy because of a change of aircraft, and on the return I had ended up on a flight operated on an A350 still with the old cabins. Now I am planning my first flight on this new cabin next November and at this point I am sure at 99% to be able to try it.
Finnair has completed the restyling of A330 and A350 interiors
The project involved the creation of a completely new Business Class, a brand new Premium Economy cabin and a revamped Economy Class to offer customers an unprecedented travel experience.
The innovative cabin was first launched in 2022 and, within two years, was introduced to the airline's entire A350 and A330 long-haul fleet. Customers can now enjoy the Finnair experience on all long-haul routes operated by the carrier between its Helsinki hub and the United States, the Middle East and Asia.
Why Finnair's business class seat is special
Named "Cabin Concept of the Year" by Onboard Hospitality, "Best Cabin Innovation" by APEX and "Best Cabin (First & Business Class)" at the Yacht and Aviation Awards. The product Finnair was also praised by judges from the Crystal Cabin Awards and Skytrax, a global benchmark for airline excellence.
Finnair was the launch company for this Business Class seat model, developed in close collaboration with Collins Aerospace and 2 years later, no other carrier has chosen to adopt the same solution. Designed to maximize space, the unique shell-structure lounge seat allows passengers to vary their seating and sleeping positions, allowing them to relax to better manage their space during long-haul flights, But unlike all other solutions on the market, there is no chair to tilt, which puzzles several travelers.
Finnair, premium economy on A350s and A330s
Kudos must absolutely be given to Finnair for managing, in such a short time, to retrofit its entire fleet. Sure it is only 22 aircraft, but other (more structured) carriers have failed to meet the announced roadmaps, not to mention those like Lufthansa runs its new flagship without a piece of trim.
Now all the planes the Finnish airline uses on long-haul are equipped with Premium Economy, a chair that I tested a few months after its launch.
Classic 2-4-2 configuration, 4K screen and in line with products offered by the other majors.
New lounge coming to Helsinki
Here comes New larger lounge in Schengen area, for Business Class customers and For Finnair Plus members. The lounge will open on July 9, located near Gate 21, is designed to offer travelers unprecedented comfort and convenience.
"We are pleased to announce the opening of our new lounge in the Schengen area, designed to offer even more space and comfort before your flight. In response to feedback from Finnair Plus members, the lounge also features an exclusive Finnair Platinum Corner reserved for Finnair Plus Platinum and Platinum Lumo members.", stated Ole Orvér, Finnair's chief commercial officer.
Travelers holding Business Class Classic and Flex tickets and Finnair Plus Gold members can access the new Finnair Business Lounge. Access can also be purchased as an extra service during ticket booking, via the Manage reservation or on the Finnair app.
"Thanks to the expanded space, Finnair's new lounge can comfortably accommodate up to 440 guests, about 150 more than the current one. Inside there are a variety of environments to suit every need: eating, working, relaxing and spending time with fellow passengers.", stated Meri Järvinen, head of Customer Experience at the airport.
The lounge design, by Studio Joanna Laajisto, captures the essence of the Nordic countries: calm, natural and welcoming. Wooden furnishings, soft lines and warm colors reflect the serenity of the Finnish landscape. Furniture by renowned Nordic designers, such as Artek, Nikari and Gubi, add a touch of local craftsmanship to the ambiance. The new lounge also offers spectacular views of the airport's runway and gate area.
