Oman Air Is, without a doubt, the least known company among those in the Persian Gulf. Founded in 1993, the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman operates-with a fleet of about 35 aircraft, including Boeing 737s and 787s-both domestic and international flights; it also flies to Italy, on Milan-Malpensa. We have written several times about Oman Air, and several times we have called it a "boutique airline"-it really is, and to get an idea just read the Apex Suite review.
Like other Gulf companies (see Emirates or Etihad, just to name a couple), to date Oman is not part of any alliance but, As we reported a few months ago on these pages, things are about to change. After the various announcements, a date has finally been announced: By the end of 2024, the Muscat-based airline will become part of Oneworld, the alliance founded in 1999 by American Airlines, British Airways and Qantas, among others. Together with Qatar, therefore, Oman is the second Gulf airline to join Oneworld.
Oneworld, among the 3 alliances, it has the fewest members: only 13, compared to SkyTeam's 20 and Star Alliance's 26. The numerical difference, however, is gradually narrowing. In fact, by next year, Fiji Airways will also join the Oneworld alliance.. To be fair, all that was missing was the officialdom, because the flag carrier of the Republic of Fiji had already been a member of oneworld Connect since 2018: it is, in fact, a "limited" version of the alliance, with agreements with only a few Oneworld companies.
Fiji Airways, founded in 1947 by Harold Gatty under the name Katafaga Estates, today has a fleet of 14 aircraft (4 Airbus A330s, 4 A350s and 6 Boeing 737s) outfitted in two classes (business and economy) and flies to 27 destinations in 13 countries (including the United States, Singapore, Japan, Australia and New Zealand).
