The history of the Scarlet Lady, the first cruise ship built on behalf of Virgin Voyages, is characterized by numerous postponements. The maiden voyage was expected in March 2020, then postponed to August 2, 2020, but considering the difficulties faced by the entire tourism industry, it was decided to look ahead, postponing it by four months.

New schedule change announced last December, with date set for May 9. A 110,000-ton, 278-meter-long behemoth. A total of 1,400 cabins in order to accommodate more than 2,770 passengers, accommodated by a crew of 1,160. However, its debut has still been postponed. By now it is no longer newsworthy, this being the sixth time.
The Scarlet Lady's postponement
The debut cruise scheduled to Miami has been postponed to the October 6, 2021. The official announcement was made by Richard Branson himself, at the head of the Virgin universe. From March 2020 to October 2021, a long wait for a ship that passengers hope will really be worth it.
Every postponement has been pinned on Covid-19 for the past 16 months, with Virgin Voyages intending to ensure as safe a trip as possible. It is worth noting, however, that no previously announced short routes have been canceled or postponed, reserved for residents of the United Kingdom. Short routes will be provided from Portsmouth, in England, in August. The caution shown by Branson obviously does not apply to the Scarlet Lady alone. Scheduled trips for the Valiant Lady have also been canceled in connection with the next six months.

Refund of tickets
Impossible to avoid the discontent of passengers, who dreamed of being able to go on a cruise aboard the Scarlet Lady. In this 2021, the number of vaccines is only increasing, and the world is looking, albeit cautiously, at the resumption of leisure travel.
For this reason, the sixth referral surprised everyone. Virgin Voyages offers two solutions to its customers. The first involves a full refund of the amount paid. The second, however, a credit to be used for future trips. It is clear that the company prefers the second option, which is made decidedly clear to passengers. Indeed, anyone who should apply for credit will receive the 200% of the amount spent initially. Branson, however, also winks at the rest of the potential customers. In addition to a full refund, a credit of 25% of the amount is also guaranteed for future cruises. A choice that does not go unnoticed, considering the great difficulties passengers have encountered with airlines over the past year and a half.
Adult ship
Launched in 2019 at Fincantieri's Sesti Ponente shipyard in Genoa, Italy, the Scarlet Lady boasts a special feature of no small importance. It is a ship prohibited to children under 18 years old. The idea is to place no limits on entertainment on board, considering the total absence of children and teenagers. It is easy to imagine how entertainment can undergo a marked change from the usual standards, being able to turn its attention solely to an adult audience. An enticing appeal even to cruise skeptics, who will be guaranteed relaxation and fun, without having to endure the screams of other people's children.
The most up-to-date technological standards will be found on board. In fact, the ship is fully home automation, with passengers being able to control certain cabin parameters through an app:
- temperature control
- intensity of the lights
- switching on the equipment
There are exhaust gas purification facilities on board, reducing the percentage of sulfur dioxides. There is also a catalytic system that reduces sulfur oxide emissions. The geometry of the hull also decreases drag, saving propulsion power. Travelers will find 20 restaurants and then bars and swimming pools. Yoga and Pilates classes will be held here daily. Space will also be made for theatrical performances and live music.
