Now, however, there seems to be a date: Singapore plans to reopen its borders to international tourism by the end of the year. But there's more: fully vaccinated travelers will be able to enter the country from September 2021. When, the government hopes, 80% of the population will have completed the vaccination cycle. After the Thailand with the Phuket Sandbox, therefore, Singapore could be the second nation on the Asian continent to reopen its borders, although it is still too early to rush to buy a ticket to the city-state.
The reopening of Singapore
Actually, Singapore's reopening will not be total. Or rather, the borders will not return to open indiscriminately to vaccinated tourists from everywhere. Rather, according to what was anticipated by Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, they will be created Safety corridors with those coming from countries where Covid-19 infections are under control. The final decision, however, will not be made until August.
"The relaxation of security measures will be gradual and extended only to vaccinated people because they are better protected from the effects of the virus," Wong said. "If you want to go out to dine at a restaurant or work out at the gym, you have to be fully vaccinated."
Initially, therefore, restrictions will be lifted for Singaporeans. Those among them who are fully vaccinated, as early as August, will be able to go abroad for tourism and--depending on the risk level of the country visited--make upon return 7 days of self-isolation instead of 14 or simply take a swab. Thereafter, in September, vaccinated travelers from low-risk countries will be able to enter Indonesia without the quarantine requirement.
Can Italians travel to Singapore?
If the September reopening is confirmed, will Italians be able to fly to Singapore?
Currently, for Italy, Singapore is among the Group D countries. Thus, leisure travel is allowed but, upon return, until July 31, travelers must:
- fill in the PLF
- Undergo a molecular or antigenic swab, within 72 hours prior to entry into Italy (the swab must obviously be negative)
- Informing the local health authority of its return
- Undertake a 10-day fiduciary isolation period, after which undergo another molecular or antigenic test
- Reach their final destination in Italy by private means only
However, it is possible that, as of July 31, the rules will change. Of course it will have to be understood whether for Singapore Italy will be considered a low-risk country or not. Currently, our country is among those in Europe with the lowest risk. With the exception of Sardinia, Sicily, Latium and Friuli Venezia-Giulia, for the Ecdc the peninsula is totally green (unlike countries such as Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands "dangerously" tinged red and dark red).
