As of today, Friday, August 6, the check-in area at Fiumicino Terminal 1, which has been closed since March 17, 2020 due to the Covid-19 emergency, is back in operation.

Although traffic volumes at Fiumicino still remain far from normal (in July, flows were about 30% of pre-Covid levels, with peaks of about 60 thousand passengers compared to 154 thousand 2 years ago), ADR has planned to reopen the Terminal 1 check-in hall in a logic of maximizing service and security levels, once again providing passengers with an infrastructure that will ensure further fluidity in airport operations.
Inside Terminal 1 will be check-in operations for Aegean Airlines, Air Malta, Albastar, Eurowings, Ryanair and Vueling Airlines, while baggage reclaim activities for these carriers will continue to be carried out in Terminal 3, where the following remain available All Covid testing and Vax & Go vaccine administration activities..

The Terminal 1 check-in area reopens to traffic in a completely revamped configuration (circulation and pre-security screening queuing area increased by 13% and over 360%, respectively, compared to how Terminal 1 used to be). The increase in the circulation area, in synergy with the reopening of the 124 check-in counters in Terminal 1, makes it possible to accommodate an additional 17,000 departing passengers under the current social spacing conditions. Accompanying the passengers' route from check-in to security checkpoints is also a ledwall installation about 130m (600 sq. m) long, for which students and faculty from AANT (Academy of Arts and New Technologies) have created the multimedia campaign "Italian History/ Italian Stories" that tells, with visual suggestions the Italian way of life, exhorting people to fly again and get connected again. The initiative aims to promote the beauty of our country with the enhancement of the work of young talents who express Italian excellence in the arts and is part of Aeroporti di Roma's new innovation strategy.
The security controls, in the name of maximum comfort, also feature a Family Lane dedicated to families with children and strollers in tow and include innovative systems for sanitizing the trays that make the passage even smoother and faster. These interventions represent the first step in a vast ongoing investment program involving the expansion of Terminal 1 and the construction of a new boarding area, operational by next summer, which will be at the forefront in Europe and will make "Leonardo da Vinci" even more efficient, comfortable, safe and sustainable.
Aeroporti di Roma would like to remind you that, according to current government regulations, only passengers and airport operators are allowed to enter the air terminal after checking their body temperature with thermoscanners. It should also be noted that inside the airport - as in all closed premises open to the public - it is mandatory to wear a protective mask and maintain an interpersonal distance of at least one meter. This measure is in addition to all the other initiatives taken by ADR to make the airport safe and comfortable.
