Waiting for the integrated Flight+Train ticket, comes the Cruise+Train ticket
The goal is to encourage more environmentally conscious tourism development in the country, including through integrated ship-train services and "last mile" rail connections between port, city and airport infrastructure.

Costa Cruises e Trenitalia (Italian FS Group) have signed an agreement to develop initiatives for sustainable tourism mobility, particularly for the travel of cruise ship passengers. The agreement includes the study of integrated ship-train travel solutions, enhancing the territory and its characteristics.

"Our commitment to achieving the ambitious project of net zero-emission ships by 2050 also extends to the development of more sustainable shore-based operations that favor alternative and green forms of transportation, such as rail transport," said Giuseppe Carino, Vice President Guest Experience & Onboard Revenues by Costa Cruises. "With Trenitalia, we will work not only to offer increasingly comfortable and sustainable transportation solutions for our guests, but also to create value in the destinations where we operate, promoting local tourism excellence and developing sustainable mobility networks with a 'dual use' system that integrates the transportation needs of local residents with those of ship passengers."
"The enhancement of sustainable tourism," said Alexander Zoratti, Director of Strategies at Trenitalia - is one of our main objectives, especially in this phase of strong travel recovery after two difficult years. Increasingly, the train must position itself as a viable alternative to other, more polluting means of transportation, and the agreement with Costa Cruises is intended to entice cruise passengers to choose our means to reach their ports of departure or to return home after their vacation by ship. This is also the mission of the Passenger Hub of the Italian FS Group, focused on the mobility of people and of which Trenitalia is the leader."
Costa Cruises and Trenitalia thus initiate a strategic project for sustainable passenger transport, focusing on certain connections to the destination ports of Costa Cruises' ships, with the involvement of national, regional and local institutions as well.
Initiatives under the agreement also include the study of local electric feeder trains connecting port and station, with the contribution of other companies in the FS Italiane Group's "Passenger Hub," and "last mile tourist" port-city-airport rail connections. Equal attention will be paid to the enhancement of historic trains, through the creation of dedicated excursions for cruise passengers, the creation of dedicated trains for Costa Crociere customers, and the development of services to improve connection with the train.
The activities included in the protocol will be coordinated by a steering committee, tasked with facilitating information sharing, project identification and implementation.
