We have often talked about the coexistence, or the need for coexistence and integration, of train and air travel. Of course Italy will not be able to, 100% copy the way of France and Germany for an obvious orographic issue, however, there are routes that can be replaced at 100% by train in the future, and the Naples/Fiumicino is one of them.
New Frecciarossa run between Naples and Fiumicino
In this article:
Trenitalia will introduce a New Frecciarossa train connection connecting Rome Fiumicino airport with Naples starting next Aug. 5. The service, operated by a Frecciarossa 1000, will depart from Fiumicino airport station at 9:53 p.m. to arrive in Naples Central at 11:56 p.m., with a stop at Roma Termini.
This is a convenient solution for all travelers who will land at Leonardo da Vinci Airport in the evening and an opportunity to reach downtown Naples without the need to change trains. The new service is in addition to the direct Frecciarossa connection that leaves Fiumicino Airport at 9:38 a.m. and arrives in Naples at 11:33 a.m. to intercept morning flights, and the one in the opposite direction that leaves the Campania capital at 5:45 a.m. and arrives at Fiumicino Airport at 7:52 a.m.
Other Frecciarossa trains connect the capital's airport hub to the city center of not only Naples, but also Florence, Bologna, Padua and Venice.
FCO Connect, since launch used more than 7 thousand times
Since the inauguration of the service last April, until the end of July, more than 7,000 passengers checked in at the counters at the station, including 6,400 with at least one checked baggage. In recent weeks alone, there have been about 100 passengers who daily have taken advantage of the service at the dedicated counters at the train station of Fiumicino's Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, where it is also possible to deliver the luggage directly and then pick it up at the final destination operated by ITA Airways.
The service is intended for travelers who reach Fiumicino airport by Frecciarossa, Leonardo Express or a Regional train, continue their journey with ITA Airways to the domestic, international and intercontinental network, with the exception of flights to the USA and Israel. Acceptance at FCO Connect counters is guaranteed to all Trenitalia and ITA Airways individual ticket holders and those who purchase a combined "train+airplane" ticket.
At the FCO Connect counters, it is possible to either drop off baggage for those who have checked in online or check in directly for those who do not have digital boarding passes.
These achievements are an important signal and a step forward for increasingly integrated and sustainable mobility that places customer experience, innovation, and environmental concern at the center.
Those who choose the Train+Flight option.
On the podium of foreign travelers choosing the combined "train + air" ticket tied for first place are Argentina and the U.S., followed by Brazil.
In contrast, the top five departure/arrival cities by train are Florence, Naples, Milan, Bologna and Venice, given the possibility of arriving directly at Fiumicino Airport without additional train stops, simplifying the journey and shortening the time.
